Missing teeth can make chewing harder, change how your smile looks, and affect day-to-day comfort. At Midtown Dental Centre on Tecumseh Rd E in Windsor, our dentists help patients explore dental implants as one option to replace a missing tooth or several teeth.
Whether implant care is right for you depends on your bone, gums, medical history, and goals. We explain options clearly after an exam — not before we have seen you.

What dental implants are
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jaw to stand in for a natural tooth root. After it integrates with the bone, it can support:
- A single crown
- A bridge
- An implant-supported denture
When the plan is complete, implants are designed to look and function like natural teeth. Results and timelines vary by patient. For a shorter overview, see our page on what a dental implant is.
Who may be a candidate
You may want to discuss implants if you are missing one or more teeth and want a replacement that does not rely on neighbouring teeth as primary support. During your visit we review:
- Your medical and dental history
- Bone and gum health
- Imaging when needed
- Your goals (single tooth, several teeth, or denture support)
Some medical conditions or medications may affect planning. Some patients need preparatory care (for example periodontal treatment or grafting) before an implant can be placed. If part of your care is better handled with a specialist, we will say so.
The implant process at Midtown Dental Centre
1. Consultation and imaging
We examine your mouth, discuss options, and may take X-rays or other images to plan placement and the final tooth (or teeth).
2. Placement of the implant
The implant is placed in the jaw in a surgical visit. Comfort options — including sedation dentistry when appropriate — are reviewed beforehand. You receive after-care instructions for swelling, diet, and hygiene.
3. Healing (osseointegration)
Over the following weeks to months, the implant typically bonds with the bone. Healing time varies by person and by the site being treated. In some cases an implant can be placed soon after an extraction; in others more healing time is needed first.
4. Abutment and final restoration
When healing allows, a connector (abutment) and final crown, bridge, or denture attachment are placed so you can chew and smile with the restored teeth. Many patients receive a crown roughly several weeks after placement once the site is ready — your timeline is set after we see you.
Implants compared with bridges or dentures
Both implants and bridges replace missing teeth. Implants usually do not require removing enamel from adjacent teeth for support, and they can help preserve bone in the implant site. A bridge may still be recommended in some situations. Conventional dentures remain a sound choice for many patients who are missing several or all teeth; implant support can improve retention when appropriate.
There is no single right choice for everyone. We help you compare options based on your exam — not slogans. Learn more about restorative care on our dental services page and what a crown is.
Caring for implants
Treat implants like valuable teeth: brush, clean between teeth as advised, and keep regular check-ups and cleanings at our Windsor office. Good home care and professional visits help protect the gums and bone around the implant.
Cost and insurance
Implant fees depend on the number of implants, whether bone grafting is needed, and the type of final restoration. We provide estimates after we understand your plan. We can also help you check what your dental benefits may cover.

Frequently asked questions
How long do dental implants take?
Most plans involve several visits over weeks to months. Healing after placement is often the longest step. We outline a realistic timeline after imaging and exam.
Do implants hurt?
Placement is done with local anaesthetic; sedation can be discussed when appropriate. Mild soreness afterward is common and usually managed with the after-care plan we provide.
Can I get an implant if I wear a denture?
Often yes — implants can help stabilize a denture. We will discuss implant-supported options at your consultation when that may fit your goals.
